Three Surprising Things Jesus Said About MoneySample
Count the cost
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.” Luke 14:28-30
As someone who has served as a budget coach for hundreds of students, this certainly sounds like an endorsement for budgeting from Jesus.
In Luke 14, Jesus describes someone who doesn’t have the means to finish a project they set out to do. God doesn’t want you and me in this predicament. The simplest practical way to avoid this is to use some sort of budget as we manage our finances.
This simple principle truly helps us live in God’s best because one key to being a good steward and wise money manager is simply that you know how much money you have, and be intentional in directing where it will go and what purpose it will serve - aka “a budget.”
We believe our budget gives God space to add his “super” to our “natural” so that our natural steps are infused with supernatural power. So, if you haven’t already, step outside of fear, start a budget and trust God’s supernatural power to work on your behalf.
