Year of the Bible: Part Two of Twelve Sample
The Origins of Abram.
Our Section of Scripture today tracks the family line of Terah, the father of Abram. This section tells us that Abram's father set out for the land of Canaan but settled in the land of Haran. Abram is a significant part of the story because God chose him as the father of many nations and his example as a Man of Faith. (Hebrews 11) He is the forefather to the Israelites and Ishmaelites and is referenced in the lineage that leads to Jesus.
Today, we see where his story begins. Abram's father, Terah, set out with his family for Canaan but settled elsewhere. Later, God called Abram to continue and go to "a land that I will show you." That land was Canaan.
Question: Are there places God has called you to, but instead, you have settled somewhere else along the way?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to show you how the life of Abram can be an encouragement to you today. Ask Him to reveal any areas you may have settled and taken up residence, but He wants you to move forward.
