The Church: On MissionSample

The Church: On Mission

DAY 3 OF 3

We serve a God who seeks and saves the lost. The entire story of the Bible is God’s rescue mission to restore his creation to the beautiful, perfect place it once was!

As God’s people, we get to join that mission. As a whole, the church carries out the mission of Jesus, telling people the Good News of Christ’s kingdom but also showing them how kingdom-people live. The church is a picture of people “made new” in Jesus, a community operating under Jesus’ kingdom values of love, mercy, and peace.

One day, Jesus will return and bring that new kingdom to completion. Until then, we anticipate the day when we see it all come together, the day when Jesus returns and welcomes us into the new heaven and the new earth, fully redeemed and renewed.

Read: Revelation 21:1-4

Reflection Questions:

  • While we wait for Jesus to return, how can the church show the world what God’s kingdom will be like?
  • How can looking forward to Jesus’ return in the future help us cope with challenges in the present?
  • We can count on it: Jesus is coming back, and he will make all things new. Think about the fact that he invites you into this beautiful rescue mission. How does reflecting on this increase your passion and urgency to tell others about Jesus? Ask God to give you wisdom and opportunities to show and tell others what life with Jesus can be like, both now and forever!

About this Plan

The Church: On Mission

When we are born again into God's family, the Church, we are given a new purpose: we join in God's ongoing mission of redeeming lost humanity. This Bible Plan is part 4 of 4 designed to go along with the Catechism Ekklesia small group series.
