Fasting and Prayer: 21-Day Challenge

DAY 7 OF 21

FOLLOW ALONG WITH OUR AUDIO VERSION OF TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

A SECURE LIFE

READ

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things along with him? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”—Romans 8:31–39 (NIV)

REFLECT

Are there things in your life that stir up a sense of your own insecurity? Take some time to consider and list the things that come to mind when you think about yourself, your circumstances, or your surroundings that trigger feelings of “not having what it takes.” Make sure to leave some space between each thing you list.

When you’re done, re-read Romans 8:31–39 and reflect on what God has promised to secure for you. Then, go back to each of the insecurities you listed and write the promise of God that supersedes and overcomes it. This will help you see that you’re enough in Christ, and nothing can take that away from you.

PRAY

Father, I confess there's a lot about me and this world that brings out insecurities in me. By the power of Your Spirit, break this tendency in me. Show me when I’m about to go down this path and redirect my thoughts toward Your Word and Your truth. Bring me to the place of accepting, resting, and celebrating the security that is mine based on Your love for me. Amen.

FOR THE FAMILY

DISCUSS

  1. What does this verse tell us about the love and power of God?
  2. What are some lies about yourself that fill your mind and make you feel like you’re not good enough for God’s love? What does God say about you instead?

PRAY

Father, sometimes I think my sins or problems are too much for You. Thank You for reminding me that You’re more powerful than that! Jesus made a bridge for me to always connect to You; nothing can take me away from Your love. I’m sorry for all my mistakes and sins. Thank You for forgiving me and loving me so powerfully. Help me to walk in Your love today. Amen.
