You Can Count on God for Kids

DAY 1 OF 7

LOOK AT HIM!

Look at my report card!” you call to your mom so she can see your high marks.

“Watch this!” you tell your friends as you do a trick on your skateboard. And they all say, “Watch this!” right back to you.

We all want to be seen. Even grown-ups. So here’s some wonderful news: God always sees you.

Just ask Hagar. She was the servant of Abraham and Sarah. When Hagar was going to have a baby, Sarah became very jealous because she couldn’t have any babies of her own. So Sarah treated Hagar terribly. It became so bad that Hagar ran away into the desert. But God saw her, even there. He sent his angel to help her and to give her a promise: her baby would one day be the father of so many descendants they cannot be counted.

Hagar gave the Lord a new name that day. She called Him El Roi.

It means “the God who sees me.”

God does see you. No matter where you are. And he wants you to help others see him. When others look at you, he doesn’t just want them to see how high you can swing, how fast you ride your bike, or how great you are on the trampoline. God wants you to show them a little bit of Him—in the way you treat others, in the kind words you say, in the way you help and give and forgive.

Sure, it’s okay to sometimes say, “Look at me!” But be sure that when others see you, they also see a little bit of him.

PRAY

God, help me do and say things that help other people see how good You are. Amen.
