Year of the Bible: Part One of TwelveSample
Cain's Family Line.
Stop here and read today's scriptures.
Family lines are taken seriously in the Bible. Cain's family line established all sorts of things; metallurgy, civil engineering, developing large cities, and more. However, Cain's family line continued in the evil traditions of sin, perpetuating brokenness and separation from God.
Seth's family line, in contrast, is recorded as reestablishing the practice of "calling on the Name of the Lord." In his book, Unlocking the Bible, author David Pawson says this, "These two lines run right through human history and will continue to do so right to the end when they are separated forever." In our world, we choose which line we want to belong to and live from; whether Cain's, leading to death or Seth's leading to life, the choice is ours.
The good news is this; we are not stuck in the bad parts of our family line, but instead, we have been adopted and invited to live in a new family line in Christ.
Question: Do you ever find yourself being worried about the consequences of the "sins" of your parents or grandparents? Have you ever taken time to lay them at the feet of Jesus?
Prayer Focus: Confess your need for mercy and grace to God and invite him to take away your fear of the past and receive His perfect love for you.
