The Road Less Traveled - a Lent Journey for Teens

DAY 19 OF 39

Mourn

You are invited to go into your pain and deal with it in this story. This is somewhat of a strange invitation, but it promises to be rewarding.

We deal with our pain by accepting our losses. No matter how far and hard we run, we can’t outrun pain. In this story, Jesus invites us to go into our pain, to accept our losses, and to feel the pain. But don’t worry, He is there with you.

Jesus also wants to know and explore the story behind your pain. He asks Mary why she is crying. It’s not to judge her or expose her. It is to invite her into realizing what is happening inside of her. In this same way, Jesus wants you to share with Him why you are sad, what caused it and how it makes you feel.

When we weep and feel that strange pain inside us, we are busy grieving. This might feel terrible, but it is part of the “letting go of pain” process. Jesus hugs us in our pain, and as we embrace it, the intensity of it will decrease. Our souls need time to work through the shock and the sickening sadness, but slowly we are stepping into the new life he has for us.

You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. (Mat 5:4)

Practice your faith this week:

Set apart some time to write your own Prayer song (Psalm) this week.
