Through the Bible: Habakkuk

DAY 3 OF 3

Lord, I Have Heard of Your Fame

Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
Habakkuk 3:2 (NIV)
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews10:23 (NIV)

Many decisions in our life are governed by our readiness to trust our senses. God endows us with sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch as a gift purposed for us to fully encounter Him and His goodness, for good works and to bear good fruits for His glory. However, these senses are never meant to be the compass for our lives. In my own personal journey, I have encountered the consequences of trusting in my own understanding, drifting away from God. The prayer from Habukkuk 3 is a reminder that God is Sovereign. The prophet Habakkuk declares His faithfulness that is unending. His power and goodness, not diminished by the negative circumstances around him but anchored upon the formidable trust that his God is trustworthy. His joy and salvation found in God, the unchanging One. His fulfilment found only in Him, not based on what He sees or encounter. As Christ believers, Jesus says He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. As we face the uncertainties in life, what shall be our response?

Prayer

Loving Father, we rejoice in You. We acknowledge Your Sovereignty over all. You are our True joy, the lifter of our heads, the Anchor of our life in all. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Habakkuk

When Habakkuk lodged his complaints about God’s “inaction” towards the wickedness of Judah, he was appalled to know that God would soon bring justice through Babylon, Judah’s vile enemy. God reassured Habakkuk that Babylon would eventually be punished and the righteous shall live by his faith. The book concludes with Habakkuk’s prayer to rejoice and place his trust in God, which sets a model for Christians to imitate amidst wickedness.
