Woman Up

DAY 2 OF 5

When the twelve spies went into the Promised Land (see Numbers 13), ten of them except Joshua and Caleb felt small.

In fact, they felt like the size of grasshoppers, dwarfed by whom they faced. Perhaps they had never overcome the mentality of slavery from all of the years their people had experienced in captivity in Egypt. Their problems seemed bigger than their promise. The giants seemed bigger than the God who had supernaturally delivered them; than the God who parted the Red Sea and drowned their pursuers. The God who provided water from a rock and manna from heaven to feed them. And, the God who led them by a cloud and by fire to the very place where they now questioned their ability to enter. Thank God for a leader like Caleb who stood in agreement with God and reminded them saying, ‘Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)

Caleb had a “Get Up” spirit that Barak lacked.

We really don’t know much about Barak before he was called by God to lead an army into war. We do know he was down and Deborah commanded him to get up. And on that day, Barak’s army routed Sisera’s army. We only read of Barak one more time in Scripture – in what is called the “Faith Hall of Fame,” Hebrews chapter 11. There we read that Barak – through faith – conquered kingdoms, won strength out of weakness, and became mighty in war. And it was all because Deborah was the leader she was called to be and boldly told Barak, “Get up!”
