Dear Future Wife: A 3-Day Devotional With Cade Thompson

DAY 2 OF 3

DAY 2 - Trusting God in the Waiting

Often, there is a stigma behind being single that can lead to intense feelings of loneliness. The truth is that those moments of singleness are moments that you will never be able to get back. Your season of singleness is a gift, not a curse. I know it can be so easy to sit in the pit during this time of waiting and I do know exactly what that feels like. So, what will you do with those lonely days while you are walking them out? How are you spending your time?

I want to encourage you to commit to giving God your best with a ‘no matter what’ attitude…

No matter how I feel, “God - I will still believe you see me, hear me, and know my heart’s desire.”

No matter what the world tells me, “God - I will still trust that your truths are higher and trustworthy.”

No matter what insecurity I am experiencing, “God - I will speak life over my situation and be grateful.”

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 ESV

Trust and patience go hand in hand. Patience is a natural response to trusting. To have patience, you must trust that the best is yet to come and that God has your best interest in mind at all times. In the disciplines of following Christ, patience is expected behavior. It is like a muscle that needs to get worked every day and as it grows, the pain will be less and the fruit of the hard work will be greater.

“...Awake, O Sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:14 ESV

AWAKE. The truth is that you and Jesus have a purpose, and someday God might allow you to walk in that purpose with a spouse. I want to encourage you to view the waiting season as preparation for life yet to be lived…because we know that with God, NO season is wasted.

One practical exercise that may help you while in the waiting is to write out what you desire in your future spouse. Maybe it’s a quality or a character trait, maybe it’s a certain like-minded passion, maybe it’s a shared dream or desire. Whatever it is, write it down; write it ALL down. Then declare “God, I surrender my desire to be with my future spouse in this waiting season and I trust you with my heart’s desire.” Then write that declaration on the same piece of paper. By putting this on paper and getting your thoughts out of your head, you are making space for more of God’s truths to enter.

Prayer: “Dear God, today I choose to not live in the pit. I choose to rise and walk in the purpose you have placed over my life. I choose to be better every day for you King Jesus, knowing it is then that I can serve my spouse better in the future. I believe that you don’t waste the waiting and I thank you for this season I am in. AMEN.”
