Pastor How to Read Luke

DAY 28 OF 30

Please read the Gospel of Luke 2:46-47,

Verse 46 - they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers...

Jesus was not gaming or watching YouTube but with the teachers. Think about it, He is God and yet He was still hungry to learn.

Jesus was in the midst of teachers (plural). We can have many, many teachers. The teachers gathered around one amazing student. When there is a curious student, teachers will come. Teachers are looking for eager students. I have observed something about life – there are more willing teachers than hungry students. If you are hungry to learn, you will attract teachers (for relationships, finance, career, leadership, ministry, etc.). So be hungry and curious.

Verse 46 - both listening to them and asking them questions.

Discipleship is both listening and asking questions.

Some are not listening enough. Some are not asking questions enough. You need to do both.

Some teachers/leaders are not allowing the disciples to ask questions. That is not discipleship. That is lecturing. Discipleship is 2-way. The disciples of Jesus were always asking Him questions.

When I disciple, I am not looking for the right answers. I am looking for the right questions. I know if they are 'getting it', not by their answers but by their questions.

When you leave a great teacher, your questions are answered.

When you leave a great discipler, your answers are questioned.

Because discipleship is about breaking down preconceived worldly ideas and aligning your thoughts and hearts with God and the Bible. I hope the way I live my life and conduct my business leave people with questions about how they are living theirs. #Alternativist

Notice that Jesus always left His disciples with more questions:

Jesus: Forgive your enemies.

Disciples: How many times must I forgive?

Jesus: Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven.

Nicodemus: How can a man enter his mother’s womb a second time?

If you want to be discipled, you must be willing to let the Bible question all the values and thinking that you grew up with (unless you are from a godly Christian family).

The truth will set you free!

47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

Amazed at His understanding, not knowledge.

Knowledge is no longer power… because of the internet. Understanding and insights are the new power. That is why businesses are hiring data analysts.

Answers alone are not enough. Answers must be integrated with understanding.

Answers with built-in understanding are called Solutions.

People don’t want our smart aleck answers. They want our solutions.

The world is full of people with answers but few with solutions.

Christians, let’s be the solution.
