There is something special about being close with someone you care about. How sweet it is to be reunited with a friend you haven’t seen in a while, or to receive a hug when you feel overwhelmed. In our scripture reading, we see two instances of Jesus healing people––a woman healed from 12 years of bleeding, and a 12-year-old girl who has just died after being terribly sick. In both of these healings, notice how close Jesus was to those He was healing. Jesus was close enough for the bleeding woman to reach out and touch, and she believed He would heal her. Right after, Jesus was close enough to take the young girl’s hand to help her get up and restore her life. Jesus was close to both of them, and Jesus is close to you.

Do you believe in your darkest moments that Jesus is still close? Do you believe that when you feel like you have blown it Jesus is still wanting to be with you? Do you believe that Jesus enjoys spending time with you? He is not embarrassed of you. He enjoys you. He wants to be close to you.

Jesus’ power is available in His presence. His presence brings peace, comfort, and clarity. He wants to be with you. Are you spending time with Him?
