Favor With Kings

DAY 6 OF 7

Simple Delegation

Don’t overthink this.

You’re about to see that Nehemiah is the Einstein of delegation and that his method of influencing others is straightforward yet genius.

“The priests made repairs, each in front of his own house.

People work best when they care the most.

So what did Nehemiah do? Pay attention; this could change the way you think about leadership.

Nehemiah assigned everyone to work on the parts of the wall that were the closest to their own homes!

That’s it. That was his fundamental strategy.

More specifically, Nehemiah
- cultivated a belief among the people that the project was possible,
- showed them that God’s favor was with them,
- provided the resources necessary for the work, and
- offered a system for the work, starting with the gates.

And then he empowered people to work nearest their own homes.

Think about it. If you know you’re working on the part of the wall that protects your home and your family, how focused would you be? How conscientious? I’ll tell you. You would not cut corners. You would definitely follow the best practices and systems that work. And you would work with speed and diligence until your section of the wall was finished. You would also work together with your neighbors to be certain that your portion integrated well with their portion. After all, you would not tolerate any gaps or inconsistencies in that part of the wall. Your home—your family—is at stake.

People work best when they care the most.
