Our Anchor In A World Adrift

DAY 5 OF 7

Suicide: Not the Solution

The train stopped once again on its tracks, prompting the train master to announce that there has been an accident. Another desperate person leaped onto the tracks to end his life. For the Japanese commuters, this is a common incident. Sadly, suicide is a norm in the land of the rising sun.

But the occurrence of suicide is not limited to Japan. More than 800,000 people around the world die of suicide every year according to the World Health Organization (WHO). That’s more than 2,000 deaths every day. The reasons are varied: depression, financial pressure, isolation, a feeling of worthlessness, and even traditional codes of honor. Whatever the reason, the remedy is not suicide. The solution to our hopelessness is Jesus Christ.

God promised salvation and eternal life through the death of His Son Jesus Christ. When we acknowledge Jesus as our Savior and Lord, He saves us even from the deepest problem that afflicts our mind and soul. We may not always get instant relief from pain and pressure, but He gives us courage to endure them, and wisdom to find a solution.

Prayer: Thank You, God for giving us eternal life through Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You that You have good plans for our future. Help us to reach out to those who think of ending their lives. Enable us to surround them with spiritual and emotional care.

About this Plan

Our Anchor In A World Adrift

The twenty-first century is a time of turbulence: the refugee crisis, economic instability, disconnection in a digitally connected world, shifting sexual morality, secularism, suicide, and the quest for a spiritual home. This devotional draws us to Jesus, our anchor in a world that’s going adrift, and challenges us to fulfill the Great Commission. It is designed as a companion to the book with the same title.
