SoulSister: Galatians 2:20 [A Study On Identity]

DAY 1 OF 8

“I”DENTITY

Galatians 2:20 AMP says"I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."

When we receive Christ and make Him Lord and Savior, we have been crucified with Christ. We have died with Christ. What does that mean? In Him, we have shared in His crucifixion. When Christ died on the cross, we too have died on the cross with Him. In the phrase "I have been crucified with Christ," the first thing that stuck out to me was "I" because that makes it personal. This is Paul talking, but let us desire to put ourselves there. Let's desire to have that same passion for God and His word. "I (insert your name) have been crucified with Christ." This statement needs to be on our lips and stay in our hearts.

The phrase "have been" refers to something that has already happened. So what happened? In Romans chapter 6 and 7, the Bible teaches us how we were slaves to sin, and controlled by the power of sin. But now that we have been crucified with Christ, that power that controlled us; that power that made us sin and made us slaves to sin, died when Christ died on the cross. We have been crucified with Christ. Sin no longer has control over us. The power of the Holy Spirit was given to empower us and not allow sin to dictate our decisions. No longer do we have to come under submission to sin because sin's power and the slave that we were to sin died on the cross with Christ. Oh, that is so good!

Day 2

About this Plan

SoulSister: Galatians 2:20 [A Study On Identity]

Where we came from or what we used to be does not define our identity. Our identity is not in our past; our identity is in Christ. In this SoulSister devotional with TiaMarie Arnold, we're going to study Galatians 2:20 everyday with other supporting scriptures, so that when we face identity challenges in our day-to-day walk, it will be the scripture that flows from within us.
