DAY 9 OF 21

Day 9

Josh Cummings

Topic: Provision

Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 9:8

Devotional:

Do you ever feel like your dreams are bigger than your current resources? You think, I don’t have enough, or It’s just not realistic. Unfortunately, it’s a fact of life that we don’t always have enough resources to fulfill our every wish, but as Christians, we know Someone who always has enough resources to provide for our needs.

God can provide manna in the wilderness. He can make money appear in a fish’s mouth. He can multiply the loaves and fishes to feed thousands of people! Not only does God always have enough to provide for us, but He wants us to partner with Him to advance His Kingdom! He asks us to do His work in the world, like spreading the gospel and caring for the poor.

Sadly, many people give up on doing God’s work because they think they don’t have enough to do it. When it comes to doing what He has called us to do, we need a new way of thinking. We need to stop assuming that God has the same limitations that humans do! God is sovereign. He has no limitations! We need to renew our mind so that we don’t give up on the good works that He has called us to do because we don’t see enough money in our bank accounts.

The apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian church of God’s ability to provide for them in 2 Corinthians 9:8. Paul was taking up a “Big Give” offering from the Greek churches for the Christians in Jerusalem who did not have enough food to eat. Paul asked the Corinthians to follow through on a pledge that they had made earlier to contribute to the offering for the hungry believers in Jerusalem. He didn’t want their fear of lack to prevent them from being generous to those in need, so he said: “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

God is able! He is able to provide not only enough for your needs all the time, but also enough surplus for you to do His Kingdom work in the world.

So who will you believe?

Take a minute in silent prayer and reflect on what God is saying to you in light of the fact that He is more than able to provide for you. Maybe He is calling you to give to someone in need, like the Corinthians. Maybe He is calling you to reduce your spending on luxuries so that you have more resources to do what He wants you to do. Maybe He wants you to believe Him for provision for a God-sized dream that will advance His Kingdom.

And God not only can provide for what He will do through you, but what He will do through all Christians across the world! Let’s believe that God is able to provide all we need to reach the world with God’s love!

Father, I thank You for providing all I need. I remember those today who are sharing the gospel in different fields around the globe. I pray for complete provision for the work You’ve assigned to them. I pray for provision for the ministries that Radiant partners with, those who are serving the poor, like Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. I ask that You fund new Kingdom dreams that will transform Kalamazoo and the world with the gospel.
