Fix your thoughts on what is true.
I’m someone who regularly “swipes right” on Instagram ads. Like a moth to a flame, I’m drawn to the shop now arrow. (#ILikeCuteThings) One day, I was curious about the Instagram algorithm and how it tailors my shopping likes. So, I did a little Google deep dive to understand this process.
I learned that the algorithms are prioritized by the type of content I express interest in. It’s tailored FOR me based on what’s important TO me. As I read Philippians, I realized that I’m far from having the right alignment of my heart with this verse. If my heart were a part of an algorithmic feed, would it focus on the best and not the worst---the beautiful and not the ugly? Probably not. Also, would my daily reliance on his Word and presence be part of the equation?
Or, would it reveal my reliance on the affirmation of others for their acceptance, rather than the truth of God’s deep love and acceptance of me?
The enemy of our souls loves dredging up all past failures and doubts that distract us from the goal of life renewed. Once we know the source of these lies, we can counter those thoughts with a biblical perspective.
Each day I must choose to realign my thoughts with the truth of God’s word. My desire is that the algorithm from the content of my heart would align with the passage in Philippians 4:8 to focus on what is true and lovely. I’m so thankful that the secret places of my heart are on display for no one but God. He understands I need lots of love, patience, and grace as I grow in my faith.
Reflection
As you read the verse in Philippians, what words caught your attention? What words does the enemy of your soul try to use to try to discourage you? What is one way to counter these thoughts?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your love is changing me and transforming me daily. I want my heart to align with Yours. God, I’m so thankful for Your grace, love, and forgiveness. Help me to focus on what is true––the beautiful and not the ugly, the best and not the worst. Help me to walk in step with You today. Amen.
