Jesus Changes Everything

DAY 5 OF 5

Luke starts his Gospel by using a label for Jesus – the Dayspring. It’s a fascinating word.

It actually refers to dawn – but not in a vague sense of just ‘morning’ or wow look the sun is up. No. Dayspring refers to the very precise moment the first rays of the sun streak over the Eastern Horizon. It is the marking of a brand-new day.

I think that is very special, because if you have ever been out all night, you will know how long those early morning hours can last. And night can be thick. Intimidating. Heavy.

At 3 AM it seems as if morning will never come. And the same at 3:30 AM and 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM. But when 5:00 AM comes, you know that if you can only wait a little longer, the sun will finally begin to peek over the edge of the earth, and little shafts of light will pierce the darkness.

That’s what Jesus is like to our soul.

Jesus is our new day. He is the turning of our night-time into day. He is our new horizon. And He is the One who turns the page, giving us a new day.

Perhaps you need a ‘new day’ in your life. In your marriage. In your mental health. In your spiritual formation. Your heart is crying out for change, a new season, a brighter horizon. With Jesus, every night eventually turns into a new day full of optimism and abundance.

Jesus changes everything. He can bring transformative change into every area of your life.

The Sun is rising. The Dayspring is here. Dawn is upon us. Light is flooding in. It's Jesus.
