Letting Go of Intrusive Thoughts and Finding PeaceSample
Thanksgiving and the Peace of Christ
Intrusive thoughts by nature are filled with worry and compete for attention in our minds and hearts. They often deceive and try to drown out all that is good and true about God. We must let go of the concerns and focus on praise if we want to see those intrusive thoughts go away and be replaced by peace.
The scripture tied to today is filled with encouragement and direction. We are told that peace comes through trusting and thanking Jesus. He invites us to give Him our concerns and let Him know what burdens us. We are told to cast our worries on Him and use prayer to guide us through this process.
Thanksgiving is one of the building blocks of faith. Our prayers should be coupled with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is so important because it reminds us of God’s faithfulness. Praising Him changes our thought patterns. We recall how God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and then gave them the Passover celebration to remind future generations of His faithfulness. We should also remember God and how He has worked in our lives. When we are thankful, we are actually growing our trust in the Lord.
We are also reminded to give Him our worry and anxiety. He wants us to place our hope back in Him and not our thoughts, feelings, or lies from the enemy. Trusting Jesus and letting go of those intrusive thoughts allows us to experience the peace of Christ that surpasses our understanding and our circumstances.
When we focus on our struggles and circumstances, we often end up thinking more about that which we do not control. Praying with thanks and trust reminds us God is in control. Through these passages in God’s Word, we are encouraged to follow these simple, but powerful, steps to let go of the intrusive thoughts that rob us of peace.
- Remind ourselves God is in control.
- Set our minds on Christ and His Word.
- Give thanks no matter our circumstances.
- Let go of fear and worry.
- Know peace is found only in Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus thank you so much for being trustworthy and good. You are in control of my life. I see the ways you have been faithful. Help me each day in the moments of anxiousness to remember to look back on your care. Remind me to be thankful, knowing that I am building up my trust in you. Help me to yield every unwanted thought to you so that I am not carrying a weight I am not meant to bear. In Jesus name, Amen.

About this Plan
Intrusive thoughts can take over life and shift from one problem to the next. Just as one battle is won, the next is right around the corner pulling us into a spiral of anxiety. We can become free from these debilitating thought patterns. God wants to give us peace, and it starts with Jesus. We would like to thank Courtney Dusenbury for her help in providing this plan.
