Relational wisdom does not equal worldly wisdom; this is proven every day when kids are categorized as either “book smart” or “street smart.” But what about “heart smart”? Wisdom is not made up of a single component, but is instead made up of a series of our own worldly experiences contemplated alongside heavenly traits.

Imparting wisdom upon our children, especially when it comes to how to deal with friends in and out of school, has less to do with the type of school they’re in; it has everything to do with reminding them to trust the heart of who they are, reflect that to their friends, and know who to turn to when that trust is broken.

So how can we help our kids exhibit compassion to peers? By putting into practice everything they’ve learned at home up until this point and reminding them that regardless of where they go to school, they need to be a light in the darkness. 

Schools aren’t just for children; they’re about families and they provide a space where kids get to not only practice peer-to-peer relationships, but also learn who they want to become as they enter adulthood.

Thought to Ponder: When we see things through the eyes of a child, we see things as God truly intends them to be.

Make it Practical:
Your mission for today is simple: meet, don’t preach. Become cognizant of meeting your kids’ needs in a situation before preaching to them. Listen before speaking, and then ascertain whether they need you to just listen or they need you to help fix a problem. Modeling this behavior will help show them what it means to be a good classmate and a good friend.
