Leading Your Child on Mission in God’s KingdomSample
Start Small
You might feel like taking on the world today. Or you might not. Don’t sweat it.
Step two in leading your child on mission in God’s kingdom is to start small. Do something that takes a few minutes or an hour. With very young children, that’s all they will be ready to do anyway. The point is to turn your attention together toward the world and participate in God’s kingdom.
Here are a few ideas for small ways to get started:
- Write an encouraging note
- Deliver a meal or a treat
- Call someone
- Sweep someone’s porch or driveway
- Pray for someone
- Collect change and help fill a financial need
After you’ve done whatever you've planned to do, reflect on the experience with your child. Ask questions like, “What did we do?”, “Why did we do that?”, “How do you feel?”, “How do you think the other person feels?”. Then consider reading a scripture passage together that connects to your reason for doing what you did. And celebrate! You and your child just cooperated with God in His redemption of the world!
