Harvest 365Sample

When Jesus heard that his cousin John the Baptist had been killed, he retreated to a solitary place. Even Jesus, wholly man, wholly God, had to take time to grieve and replenish. What do we do when we receive bad news?
There are a few responses to this. Push through. Soldier on. Meltdown. Just to name a few, but Jesus did something probably unexpected. He took time out to be alone. The word here for solitary implies a wilderness. A place without distraction.
So often when I receive bad news, I just want to push through and distract myself by being as busy as possible. But Jesus' way is better. Take some time, find a quiet place, process the grief. At least that was His plan.
When he arrived, crowds were waiting, and He had compassion on them. He healed the sick and fed them. Then he retreated, alone, to pray.
Sometimes life gets in the way of grief. It is important for us to remember that Jesus, son of God, took the time to process what he felt. We should prioritize this space as well.
