Thrive: A Journey Through the PsalmsSample
The Prescription for Peace
Psalm 91 is one of my favorite psalms of all time! It has been a wealth of healing, hope, and peace throughout my life.
Fear is something I have dealt with since I was a small child. I remember lying awake at night for weeks after watching a Disney movie, terrified the villain was going to come after me. I remember laying there just saying, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!" Again and again, until I'd fall asleep. I have learned that fear is like a mist; it can seem all-consuming and appears as though nothing else exists, but when the light of the sun (Son) shines on it, the mist disappears. I can once again see the truth - that God is with me, and He loves me. The more I have learned and experienced God's incredible love for me, the less I have experienced fear's grip on my life.
When we make God's presence our home, we can truly rest, knowing that He is right beside us and he is covering us. When we remain in this place, the place of His presence and communion, nothing can truly harm us. We don't have to be afraid of not having control because He is in control. When the world is fearful and full of unrest, we don't need to be anxious or cower because our Heavenly Father is our source of provision. Nothing is bigger, stronger, or more dependable than His love for us.
Daily Challenge:
What scares you? Is it the unknown? The dark, not having enough? Someone or something harming you? Are there specific triggers from events in your past that are causing anxiety and torment in your life?
Spend some time today in prayer, asking God to show you an area where fear has settled in your life and ask Him to shine His light and truth.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I want to live every day in your presence, and I want to know that you're right beside me every moment of the day.
Right now, will you please show me any places where I have given fear more say or authority in my life than you? I confess and repent for giving fear this power in my life, and I ask you to come and wash me and fill me with your love. Please show me how to walk beside you in this area of my life.
In Jesus's wonderful name, amen.
