You Can Count on God
When I look back on my life―the pain, the disappointments, and the times I felt completely alone and abandoned―I now know without a shadow of a doubt that God was there all the time. God has brought new opportunities, strength, insights, and greater faith out of the loss and pain. God never abandons us (Hebrews 13:5-6). He loves us through the hardships.
Jesus told us that in the world we will experience trouble. He also said that we could be of good cheer because he has overcome the world. God has made great promises to us in His Word, and He will not go back on His promises. There is no hardship that God cannot turn around for good. We only need to turn to Him.
Here are a few of God’s promises to us.
- Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33).
- When you give your requests to God with thanksgiving His peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
- Nothing is impossible for the one who believes (Mark 9:23).
Our part is to have faith, to trust God even when circumstances seem hopeless, and to claim God’s promises to us. We also need to release our expectations and desires to His will.
- Seek God’s will first. He is a good Father, and He wants to show you the way. Pray about each need, desire, and problem you face. Then be sure to listen for the answer. He may speak to you through His Word, through circumstances, through another believer, or through journaling.
- Find verses that resonate with what you are facing. The Psalms are rich with encouragement and reminders of God’s faithfulness. Remember God’s Word has power. Meditating on the Word will draw you into a closer connection with your Heavenly Father.
- Pray God’s Word over yourself. Claim God’s promises for yourself and your situation.
I can tell you from experience that, while we may have ideas about how things should go, God’s plans are always better. And we often can’t even imagine what He has in store for us (Ephesians 3:20).
Prayer
Father God, I’m so grateful Your promises apply to my life. Help me to fix my eyes on Your truth and Your faithfulness through the hard times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
