The Light Shines in the DarknessSample
Jesus was sent by God the Father
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:17)
God the Son was “sent” into the world by God the Father. This expression is used frequently in the gospel of John. It does not imply that Jesus was inferior to the Father. But it does indicate that Jesus’ mission, authority and message came from God the Father, not from Himself. As Jesus repeatedly said:
“I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will but the will of Him who sent me” (John 6:38),
“My teaching is not mine, but His who sent Me” (John 7:16),
“For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent Me has Himself given Me a commandment—what to say and what to speak” (John 12:49).
In a similar way, Jesus sent his disciples into the world. He told them, “As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you” (John 20:21). They were to spread the message of God’s Kingdom in Jesus’ Name and authority. And this commission still stands. The church is called to share the Gospel worldwide, “in order that the world might be saved”.

About this Plan
The apostle John wrote a book about Jesus, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). This reading plan goes through many Scripture verses, and the first chapters of John’s gospel, to discover who Jesus is.
