Poof! He blows on the nations; they wither and disappear into the wind. 

In a similar vein are the following two verses: ‘He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.’ (Isaiah 40:23-24) 

Poof! We’ve heard that before (vs6-8). The author likes this picture. I do too. Inspired by this idea I created a huge (60x120cm) spider’s web out of gold thread. You can’t imagine how long it took. But what are the labours of life, compared to God? Tedious spiders’ webs? Poof! COVID affairs? Poof! The stock market? Poof! What are other nations’ aggressive plans, compared to God’s plans? Nations are specks of dust. Poof! 

We worship Almighty God, dynamic in history.

In what way does this perspective change your outlook today?

Blow on the dross of today, God-over-all-nations, so we’re left in awe of you and not our fickle constructs.
