Family Matters

DAY 2 OF 5

Has anyone ever told you that you should honor your parents? Honor can be a confusing word sometimes because it can look different at different times. Sometimes the best way to honor your parents is by doing your chores even when you think they’re stupid, offering to go above and beyond when you help out, or asking what else you can do. But other times, it may be using kind words when you talk to your family, choosing not to yell at your parents even when you’re upset, and sticking to the rules even if you think they’re stupid. So, honor is trusting that your parents know what is best for you and treating them with respect no matter the situation. There are times when honoring your parents might not be the best choice; if you are in a situation in your family where you are unsafe, or your parents harm you verbally, mentally, or physically, please don’t stay silent - tell someone you trust. But, if you are not in a dangerous situation, God tells you the best way to treat your parents is with honor, no matter what!

Challenge: Take a step towards honoring your parents or caregivers today. This might look like doing something the first time they ask you, asking what you can do to help out at home, or writing them a card just thanking them for taking care of you! Be creative and show honor today.
