DAY 2 OF 5

Friends: Remember those?

Proverbs 17:17, "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."

If you're that guy that enjoys hanging out with your friends, I'm sure you felt Covid on a whole different level. Even if you were a homebody, you probably had friends you missed seeing in person a little bit. But, on the other hand, you may have had a weekly routine to see friends at church, over dinner, or have coffee.

Either way, you probably had a friend that you used to see when you wanted but now couldn't. Thank God for virtual solutions like Zoom and Facetime; it's not the same as being able to shake hands or give a hug.

Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."

We may not fully realize just how much we need those people in our lives. Some were listeners, some encouragers, and some were accountability partners or even mentors. We may even have been those to others, so it's essential to get back into building those friendships again.

  • We have friends (who live in different states) that we may not speak to each other for months or even a year and pick up right where we left off when we do connect.

  • We have friends that we've never been in the same room but feel like brothers.

  • Then we have a friend who dramatically influences us, and we need to spend time with that person.

  • Your small group may have older gentlemen from whom you glean wisdom and need to spend time speaking with them.

As you can see, many levels of friendships may have been put on hold in 2020.

Pro tip: you may have made a few friends online that you could now develop further in person.

So whatever rut we so quickly fell into during the Covid months, we need to get over it and get back to our friends. Because not only do we need those influences in our lives, but we may also serve that role to someone else. As close as you and your wife are, she needs friends, and so do you. But you have to make time to build those relationships, and today seems a great place to start.

Uncommen Questions:

Have you fallen into a rut of solitary confinement due to the changes that took place during Covid?

What are you doing to get back in contact with your friends?

Uncommen Challenge:

It's time to get off the couch and get back to seeing your friends.
