The Well-Rounded Business Leader, Part IV
This week we’re exploring the differences between wisdom, knowledge, and understanding and what they mean to the well-rounded business leader. We have looked more closely at understanding and knowledge. Finally, wisdom results from the knowledge and understanding we gain over the years.
When we’ve made enough mistakes, the knowledge gained enables us to have wisdom. We apply wisdom strategically, while our application of knowledge is more tactical.
My first business began when business loans were at 21% interest. The painful lessons I learned from that loan, and from bank customers of mine who were overextended, have provided me wisdom to counsel others today on the perils of debt.
Proverbs 9:10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
Applying the lessons we’ve learned over time provides a pathway for us to gain wisdom, but once again, it requires humility.
Questions for Reflection:
- According to Proverbs 9:10, what is needed to gain wisdom?
- Can you think of a Bible character who displayed great wisdom? From whom did that wisdom come?
- Is it possible to have wisdom without knowledge or understanding? Explain.
Heavenly Father, Lord God, you are great and worthy of praise. You alone provide us with knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Forgive us for the times we try and seek out any of these three on our own. Thank You that You give generously to all who seek Your ways, and help us apply all three – knowledge, understanding, and wisdom – in our business practices, not neglecting others for the sake of one. Amen.
