A World In Peace
Peace and security are what so many presidents around the world have declared for years. The book of Revelation discloses how the world ends. The end will not be a total annihilation, but a world of true peace and security for one thousand years. Imagine a world where there are no wars, no civil unrest, no social injustice, and no one killing, stealing, or destroying. This sounds like a total utopia, but it is how the world ends. Of course, we know a seven-year period of great tribulation, like there hasn’t been since the creation of the world, must take place before the millennium of peace begins.
Revelation 20:1 tells us how the story ends for Satan. An angel from heaven binds him with a big chain for a thousand years. Men and women will no longer have to suffer his accusations, constant attacks, or temptations.
There can be no peace without justice. Justice breeds peace. Since people began living in community, they have not been able to maintain peace or security—much less live in equality! Inequality is at the root of injustice, and therefore at the root of social conflict. Jesus will govern the world after He triumphantly returns. He will guarantee a very long time of peace and security among the people and nations of the world.
This peace will not come easily. Jesus has already paid a price for our peace and for the peace He will bring upon His return. He taught us to live selflessly. He decided to change human hearts before changing the conditions of life in this world. True and lasting change comes from the inside. No one has been able to produce, let alone maintain, long-lasting change from the outside. When you try to impose change by force, you cannot have lasting success. Our problems are in our hearts: they come from pride, selfishness, greed, and envy. Such sins are at the root of all human conflicts, however big or small. That is why God promised to give us a new heart. We are a new creation if we are in Christ, and all things are made new. This new creation is the new self in Christ, born again of the Spirit, having asked Jesus Christ to become Savior and Lord of his or her life.
