Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms (Psalm 15-21)

DAY 1 OF 7

Day 1

Psalm 15

The message of this Psalm is about the “Character of Those Who May Dwell with the LORD.” Teaching Godly character is a priority in homeschooling. Part of our discipleship program, called home education, will most likely include character development and training. Where do we get our guide for such training? Right here in Psalm 15 we see what it looks like to be those who “dwell” or live with God. They are those who are honorable in character in these ways:

Verse 1 – Walks uprightly (how you live bears the fruit of righteousness).

Verse 2 – Works righteousness (what you do bears the fruit of righteousness).

Verse 2 – Speaks truth inwardly (meditates on the truth of God’s Word).

Verse 3 – Speaks truth outwardly—and does no harm with words or deeds.

Verse 3 – Does Good to his neighbors and friends.

Verse 4 – Sees evil as evil.

Verse 4 – Honors those who fear God.

Verse 4 – Keeps his word.

Verse 5 – Uses his resources wisely.

Whoever lives with this kind of character and integrity will be stable. These are proven commonsense facts that will guide our character training. We can teach our children from this to: live right, to do good to all, to speak the truth in love, to discern evil and good, to honor Godly men and women, to keep their word, and to be good stewards of whatever God gives them.

Verse 5 ends by saying, “He who does these things shall never be moved” (moved in Hebrew is also shaken). A man of character cannot be shaken, but will stand firm in truth. This is what we want for our children as we continue to instruct them in character. And we trust God that their future will be stable as they learn to “dwell with the LORD” in His house, and as He dwells with us in ours.

To Do With The Kids

Give each child a piece of paper with two columns labeled DOES and DOES NOT. As you read Psalm 15 aloud, the children write down the things a Godly man DOES and what he DOES NOT do. Then, turn the paper over and write the words, “CHARACTER PSALM” at the top and list words that are made up using those letters. For example, you can make the words: car, chart, race, charm, palm, etc.
