A HELPLESS MAN?

‘Helpless’ means to lack help, but actually the paralysed man, who was obviously unable to help himself, did have help in the shape of four friends. Friends who would go the extra distance on his behalf. Friends who were prepared to do whatever it took to help him. Friends for whom nothing was too much trouble. True friends! Determined friends.

The four friends faced so many obstacles as they took the man to Jesus, but did they give up? No, sir! The crowds didn’t stop them, a steep flight of stairs up the side of the house was no problem, and as for the roof, well, it might slow them down a bit, but, hey, nothing was too difficult for them to overcome!

And so it was that the man found himself being lowered, oh so carefully, through a large hole. Everyone was staring up at him, except for Jesus, who was smiling. He was still smiling when he spoke to the man, and his smile grew wider still when the man stood up and walked, just like that! Then it was smiles all round!
