Recovering From RuinsSample
Get Down to Work
Previously, we saw that God gave His word to David, and God blessed David’s kindness. Now, David had work to do—fight and recover all the Amalekites stole. David and his men caught the Amalekites unawares and fought them from dusk until the next day’s evening (1 Samuel 30:17). The lesson here is straightforward; get down to work.
Sometimes we struggle to find the strength to do the much-needed work because we are exhausted. However, if we must be victorious, we must fight and rebuild. God has blessed us with the intellect, skills, and resources we need to deploy for recovery. Nothing can replace the work we must do. Engaging in spiritual activities all day will be in vain if we do not compliment them with practical actions that yield results.
When you are down, the most important thing you can do is get back on your feet. When God gives His word, you are to do the work. When we act on God’s word, we are not validating His word. Rather, we are igniting faith in us through His word that triumphs in the face of obstacles and opposition. God’s word does not need us to be validated, but we need His word in us to remain alive.
For instance, has God blessed you with an idea to help you recover from financial ruins, but you are afraid to get down to work? Are you ashamed to rebuild because of your age? Are you nervous about giving that project one last shot because people are going to ridicule you? Are you sceptical about fighting for what is rightly yours because people who do not understand your journey will misinterpret your motive? Be assured that God has got your back. He will give you victory in your fight and will stand by you as you rebuild.
So make that phone call, pick up that pen, record that song, embark on that missionary trip, submit that proposal, work on that idea and knock on that door. Make that request you think is awkward, be determined to see results, rebuild and fight! You can recover all, and you will recover from your ruins, get down to work today.
Prayer
Father Lord, give me the courage to work towards recovering from loss and defeat. Bless me with the resources I need and favour the work of my hands. Amen.
