Be Kind: Devotions for Developing the Heart God DesiresSample

Be Kind: Devotions for Developing the Heart God Desires

DAY 5 OF 5

This chapter of Ephesians opens with some striking words. Before Christ, you were actually dead in sin. Such words are offensive in today’s culture, which wishes to virtue-signal at every turn. However, this beautiful news is a critical difference between Christianity and every other worldview. While other religious worldviews would seek to equip you with the tools to climb the mountain to heaven, Christianity sees us as dead and incapable of climbing at all. Instead, God reached down and raised us up from our sin. That is the best news you have read all day!

As a recipient of such endless grace, you are to reflect the light of God’s loving-kindness. We believe in the gospel and are saved, but we did none of the work. This text tells us who did all of the lifting. Salvation is an act of kindness from God that flows from the love He had for us even while we were dead in sin. As the recipients of the immeasurable riches of His grace (v. 7), that kindness reflects off of us and invites others who are still in darkness into the light of His gospel. Kindness is key in our invitation to others to walk with us in His grace.

Day 4

About this Plan

Be Kind: Devotions for Developing the Heart God Desires

What’s the difference between being nice and being kind? It’s easy to fake nice. You can look one way on the outside but feel another way on the inside. However, it’s hard to fake kindness. Kindness is selfless. Kindness is loving. Genuine kindness is costly. Being kind mimics Jesus. It reveals that His love has transformed us. Christlikeness is the goal of our faith, so we strive to be kind.
