Pathways to the Nations

DAY 8 OF 8

Day 8

A Path Shining Ever Brighter

In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis, the Pevensies stumble deeper into—then out of—the wardrobe and onto a path through the woods into Narnia, where they belong, at least for a time. Their path becomes clearer once they start walking into the winter day.

God gives wisdom to lead us on straight paths (Proverbs 4:10). Once we start following the way of wisdom that He’s illuminated for us, as Proverbs 4:18 says, we may find that the pathway becomes “ever brighter” as we go, like the sun coming up in the morning.

When Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the gift of the Holy Spirit, He also gave them a task and geographical direction for where they should take the message about Him. His followers were to act as His witnesses from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. They were to start where they were and bring the message to people who hadn’t witnessed Jesus for themselves. Jesus’ first disciples did just that, moving out from Jerusalem toward the ends of the earth.

As we consider what part each of us will play in bringing the Good News to the ends of the earth, God has given us the same Holy Spirit and many ways to spread the message about the Bread of Life. On whichever pathway we follow—along family networks, alongside communities in poverty, through missional business—the important thing is to start. As we follow God’s path in wisdom, He’ll give us light for the next steps.

What’s your next step?

About this Plan

Pathways to the Nations

Fishermen, soldiers, tentmakers, philosophers. The Holy Spirit employs all sorts of people, professions, and gifts to spread the Good News to the ends of the earth. Old and young, rich and poor—all can make a difference. Since Roman times, Jesus’ Kingdom has moved into the nations along pathways such as missionary trips, community outreach, academics, and business. What pathway might you travel to take God’s message to the world?
