Bittersweet

DAY 19 OF 21

Written by Ella, age 16 from Georgetown, Texas

Fights are never fun. They strain and harm relationships, make everyone involved feel terrible, and cause people to sometimes say things that they never would normally say. The problem is, in the moment, it can just feel so good to shout the words you know will make the person you’re angry with feel as bad as you do. But once those words are said, we can never take them back, and the damage is done. It can feel like we will never be forgiven, and that the relationship is damaged beyond repair. And yes, for a time, things may not be the same because of our harsh words. But that’s what makes God so good. God is always willing to forgive. God never holds a grudge. God is overflowing with grace and mercy and is always willing to give us a fresh start no matter what we have said or done. Today, spend some time thanking God for mercy, grace, and second chances.

About this Plan

Bittersweet

Okay so you've forgiven, but how can you tell if it's even working? The hurt, frustration, or confusion is still very real and "they" never actually said sorry. It can feel sweet to stay bitter. But maybe there's a better answer. We'll learn how when you don't forgive, it hurts you, that everybody needs forgiveness, and how it's okay that healing doesn't always happen overnight.
