You Are Not Going to Like What I Have to Say
By Rev. Roger Woller
Have you ever had to tell someone something that made them very upset? When you told them the truth, they became angry at you. This anger, this rebellion, and this not wanting to listen to the truth are what sin has done to all of us.
We do not want to hear that we are sinners and that we have fallen short of what is right and good in God’s eyes. We do not want to hear that we need to repent and turn away from our sins.
The prophet Ezekiel was told by God to tell the people of Israel that they were disloyal to God, rebellious, brazen-faced, and hard-hearted. Keep in mind the people of Israel did not think they were that bad. They did not want to hear the truth.
God told Ezekiel to tell them the truth whether they wanted to hear it or not. “You are to speak my words to them whether they listen or they do not, for they are rebellious.” (Ezekiel 2:7)
Have you ever had to tell a loved one that you think they are abusing alcohol or drugs? That if they do not stop the abuse, they are ruining their life? It was for their own good. You told them because you really loved them.
God wants us to know that we are sinners and need a Savior. God wants us to know that we need help. He wants us to hear the truth because there is hope for us. God really loves us. There is forgiveness for us. Jesus earned that forgiveness for us when he died on the cross and rose again. Listen to God’s Word!
Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, help me listen to your soul-saving Word. Send your Holy Spirit to change my attitude to always want to listen to you. Amen.

About this Plan
Each day is a new opportunity to grow closer to God, and a great place to start is in God’s Word. Spending time with our Bible and understanding God’s Word strengthens our faith in the Christ. We lean on God to always trust and believe in what Jesus has done for us. This 8-day devotion series, shared by The Lutheran Home Association’s chaplains, addresses a different aspect of God’s Word.
