Loving Jesus More

DAY 23 OF 40

Living Stones

This past year, I learned to love Jesus more by remembering the importance of proclaiming the good news and sharing stories of God’s faithfulness wherever I go.

There are many passages that speak of stones throughout Scripture. Tracing references of stones throughout the Bible, one sees that they served as boundaries, anchors, pillars, memorials, springs of water, the foundation of the Church, etc. In 1 Peter 2:5, there is mention of living stones:

You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Now, stones once serving as physical demonstrations of God’s faithfulness are living stones as those who believe compose the church. No longer are the rocks reminders but now they are living ambassadors! The living stones are living reminders who are to proclaim the good news and share stories of God’s faithfulness. Instead of rocks symbolizing permanent structures to recall God’s faithfulness in the past, we are the living reminders of the living God who is with us in the present and we are to proclaim his goodness and faithfulness through our lives wherever we go. In Luke 19:40, Jesus says, “the rocks will cry out!”

Isn’t it great that stones are everywhere! When you see one on the ground, let it serve as a reminder to you of the living stone you are with an important message to share!

About this Plan

Loving Jesus More

The past year has been challenging for all of us. The impact of COVID-19 and the resulting pandemic is ongoing. In this devotional series, the authors examine what they have learned about Jesus this past year. In times of testing and preparation, his Spirit draws us to wait on him.
