Through the Bible: PsalmsSample
Three Blessed People
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they are ever praising You. Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage ... O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You.” (Psalm 84:4-5, 12 ESV)
In times of troubles, we cry out to God to save us from tough situations, our enemies, even from our own fears. The Psalmist also sang praises to the Lord, who is a fair judge, the only God whom we can trust. We look forward to the day when all His believers gather to rejoice with the Lord. Psalm 84 says there are three kinds of people who are blessed by God. First, those who dwell in God’s house and live a life in God’s presence. Second, those who walk in God’s path, in God’s will. Third, those who trust in God. Let’s claim the blessings by doing all three!
Prayer
Father God, thank You for pointing us to the way when we feel lost, as we’ve seen time and time again in the Psalms. Sometimes our feelings of insecurity, frustration, and fear are so real. But Father God, thank You for giving us access, so that we can pray and share anything with You. Feelings are temporal but Your words are the enduring truth, which help us to reflect and rebuild in You Lord. We thank You in Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan
The word psalm is derived from the Hebrew word tehillim, which means “praises," and the Greek word psallein, which means “to pluck.” Thus, Psalms is a collection of poetry sung with stringed instruments. The book records the poets' naked emotions––joy, sorrow, or anger––in the high and low seasons of their life. As John Calvin described it, reading Psalms is like looking into a mirror and seeing our own hearts.
