Walking With Jesus (Self Control)

DAY 2 OF 7

As you wish

“Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.”

Proverbs 16:3

A friend once asked for counseling on social media by telling his struggles. He testified that he had done many things for the Lord, such as praying, going to church regularly, reading the Bible, and so on. However, what he received was far different from what he had imagined. He had prayed for a soul mate, a job, material blessings, and others, but none of them was answered by God. What's wrong?

Without realizing it, we often act like that. Based on the verse above, we think that all of our plans will be blessed if we surrender our actions to God. We are free to ask what we want, and think God will give us everything we ask for. The Daily Indonesian Bible translates this verse very well. It says, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” This is a more precise meaning. This means we should entrust our plans to the Lord.  This means God is the One who has the plan, and we are part of His plan. That's when the plan will work. If it is not God's plan, then whatever we ask and even confidently do will disappoint us because it will fail.

Seek God's will if you want to be successful. Have a close relationship with Him. Our intimacy with the Father will bring us to a level of spiritual growth that allows us to understand His plan. Remember that He can do anything and that none of His plans fail (Job 42:2). If we are part of His plan, then we can trust that He will do it for us for His glory.

Depend on the Lord in your planning. He knows best, and His wisdom is unquestionable.

Reflection:

1. Have you ever asked God for all you wanted? What happened?

2. What are you doing to understand God's plan better?

Application:

Involve God in any plan and carry out His plan because being involved in God's plan is much easier than living life according to your mind.

About this Plan

Walking With Jesus (Self Control)

When the Holy Spirit becomes the sole ruler in our lives, our Christian life must be in harmony with the values of the Kingdom of God. It takes a diligent effort to continue defeating the old human character that is contrary to God's word to live the values of the Kingdom. Through this devotional series, we will explore how to have self-control and align it with the character of Christ.
