Known: 10 Days to Discovering Your IdentitySample
Has someone really important to you ever remembered your name in a conversation? Maybe it was a new friend, the barista from Starbucks, or your crush from school. Do you remember how good it made you feel to be known in that situation by name? Do you remember how good it made you feel to hear the voice of someone you admire speak your name, remember you, acknowledge you, or give you a meaningful compliment? It makes you feel known and important.
That is sort of what these verses in John 10 feel like too. Jesus is telling us that if we give ourselves to Him and listen to His voice that He will know us. Imagine the Savior of the world knowing exactly what your voice sounds like!
For someone to know your voice, you have to have a relationship with them. Think about it; if you got voice recordings of all your close friends and family and then had to guess whose voice was whose, could you do it? I bet you could guess most of them. Why? Because you talk to them all day, every day! It is the same way with Jesus; the more time you spend with Him, the more we get to know His voice! I heard a quote once that completely changed the way I thought about God’s voice. It said: “You can’t complain that you’re not hearing God’s voice if your Bible is closed.” SHEEEEESH! That sentence hit me hard the first time I heard it. How are we supposed to hear God’s voice if we are not in his Word, reading his words, and spending time with him in prayer and worship? We can’t, and we won’t!
The good news is God wants to know you! He wants to know your voice; He wants you to be a part of his crew. He wants all of you—not just the pretty parts—all of the parts!
Jesus wants you to know the voice He created in you, but to unlock the voice of your purpose you have to know His voice first. Be a sheep; follow your Shepherd. Follow Jesus, and you will never know what it is like to go somewhere without someone who knows your voice.
