DAY 19 OF 20

“Shh, don’t say anything. Maybe they won’t see us.” “Hurry, speed up, so we don’t have to look at them at the red light.” “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe they smell so bad.” “I don’t get why they don’t speak our language. I mean, come on!” If we’re honest, we’ve either said these statements, had these thoughts, or listened as someone else speaks these words. We’re all guilty. We’re all guilty of not being empathetic to someone else’s plot in life.

Empathy can be one of the most challenging emotions for us to show to someone else. In comparison, sympathy asks us to feel “for” someone. Empathy steps in requiring us to feel “with” someone. To show the love of Jesus to the world, we must become people of empathy to love them the way He loves them. This is the first step to caring for others. When we have empathy, we are able to look toward ways we can tangibly make a difference. Radical people look out for the hurting people of the world.

How can you show up for someone who is hurting today?

About this Plan

Rad

Jesus had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and others challenged the status quo. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love others according to his revolutionary example.
