The Shadow of Your WingsSample
“Sitting on a mountain top, Looking all over the world, And I be telling myself, That I ain’t a regular girl”
Everything changes once you accept the call of following Jesus. Your identity, your aspirations, your desires; it is all thrown away and replaced with a fresh mind and heart. A heart eager to know the thoughts and plans God has for them.
But if we’re honest, at times it can be confusing to know where God wants you, or what His will is for your life. And other times, even though it is clear, it is accompanied by many fears and doubts.
The truth of the matter is, following Jesus is not an easy calling. And yet it is the best, most fulfilling and life-giving calling you can ever choose. The beauty of a walk with the Lord is that He is with you every step of the way. And before you chose Him, He chose you. He created you in your mother’s womb and knit you together. He knew exactly what day and hour and minute you would enter into this earth. He knew exactly what family you would be placed in. He knew exactly where you would live and grow up. He knew exactly what gifts and abilities He would give you. And He patiently loved you and knocked on the door of your heart until you let Him in. He did all of the hard work for us. All we have to do now is put our faith and trust in Him and obey His words. And yet we still find this very difficult to do. I am certainly not exempt.
Growing up with the knowledge of the Lord was a true blessing. At a young age, God was already preparing me for His future works. I was singing and writing songs since I was just five years old. I always had a feeling God would use it one day if I gave it to Him. As time went on, and more opportunities opened as I prayed, I became sure that this was God’s plan for my life. And the more sure I became, the more fear and anxiety started to disrupt my peace and steal my joy.
But I am here to share with you the most freeing news that God has recently revealed to me. His calling on my life is not to be a singer. His calling on my life is to be His disciple. First and foremost, before any career, before any gift, is this amazing identity of being a child of God. If I could just get that right, if I could love Him with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength then everything else will naturally follow. I won’t have to force it and I won’t have to fear failure. Because I am connected to the source of life and all wisdom.
So today, if you are struggling to find a career path, or if you are paralyzed and drowning within one, lay those worries aside. You have a better, higher, and more fulfilling calling. When you find your identity there, the weight you’ve been putting on yourself will fade away. You are a child of the King, and that is something that can never be taken away.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for trusting in myself and forgetting the most important calling of my life. To simply follow You. Help me to find my identity in You alone. Amen.
Action: This higher, better calling, deserves more effort than your earthly aspirations. Put time aside to grow in this calling every day. Be a student of the word. Lean not on your own understanding and He will direct your paths.
