[Revelation] To the Church at Ephesus

DAY 4 OF 5

Be Well-Nurtured

For good health, there is nothing like good nutrition. Some even say that we are what we eat. The Bible does say that we shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. Our spiritual life depends on the quality and quantity of the spiritual food we take. The Apostle Peter told Jesus that they didn’t have anyone else to go to, for only He had words of eternal life. Peter had met, walked, heard, and received new life from the Son of God; thus, he was not willing to leave Him.

The Bible is our daily spiritual bread. According to the Book of Deuteronomy, you must teach it to your children and talk about it when you sit at home, when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. This certainly speaks to quantity! But quality is just as important. The Bible teaches us how to live a godly life, with a variety of lessons, prophecies, and characters to help us mature in a well-balanced manner.

We must be careful to remember, there is more to a godly life than having biblical knowledge. God exhorts us, through Moses, that we are to obey His commandments and His decrees. Words of eternal life need to not only be received in one’s heart, but obeyed in order for them to become spiritual nourishment. The exhortations written in the Bible need to be revealed and understood with a spiritual mind. The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:12 that we have received the Spirit of God, so that we can understand what God has freely given us. As we read the Bible, the Spirit of God will lead us to all truth and will alert us to any deception.

There is no way we will be able to discern false teachings and endure hardships and trials if our faith is not deeply rooted in the Word of God. Only deeply rooted trees can withstand hurricane winds; therefore, let us feed on the Bible every day and meditate on it every day as we get up, as we sit down, as we walk, and as we lie down.

About this Plan

[Revelation] To the Church at Ephesus

The church is vitally important for the emotional and spiritual life of the believer. When we look at the Church of Ephesus in Revelation chapter two, we find a body of believers who worked hard and endured hardship, yet they lost their first love. Do you identify with the believers at Ephesus? If you do, return to your first love and do the things you did when you first believed.
