Crisis Converted

DAY 39 OF 64

Theme: Keeping Promises

Crisis Converted Then:

The prophet reprimands the people who “took oaths in the name of the Lord,” but those oaths were not taken "in truth or righteousness.” The irony is staggering and can’t be overlooked. The people who call themselves “Jacob” and “Israel” take vows in the name of the God of Israel with no intention of ever keeping those vows. They take pride in the name they falsely bear.

Crisis Converted Now:

It is so disheartening when a person who bears the name of Christ acts in a way that is counter to the character of Christ. This isn’t a slip of unintentional sin or lapse in judgment, but a general disregard for the self-sacrificial character of Jesus. When we make our vows before the Lord, we bear the name of his Son. We are, proudly, Christians. Our character should reflect the character of that name. Also, our actions and character then become affiliated with the name Christian. In what ways do we bear the name Christian in truth and righteousness?

About this Plan

Crisis Converted

This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
