Crisis ConvertedSample
Theme: Questioning God
Crisis Converted Then:
Even exiled Israel scratched their head at God’s plans. Cyrus II? The Persian king would be God’s deliverer? Not since Habakkuk saw Babylon’s armies as God’s henchmen has Israel questioned God’s strategy.
But how can the clay question the potter? How can the child doubt their birth from their parents? What arrogance or ignorance would drive such an act? Yahweh, the maker of all, will raise up the one he desires to set things right again.
Crisis Converted Now:
We, humans, are creatures of dust and clay, made by God’s hand from the ground. Yet how many times have we clay creatures stood boldly (foolishly, arrogantly) and told the potter that his plans weren’t good?
Suffering? Taking up a cross daily? Serving faithfully? Those aren’t plans for success. Those are a pathway to cultural irrelevance. But how dare we? The God who created the cosmos will direct its history and he doesn’t need any noise from us. Try sitting silent in his powerful presence today for 5 minutes.

About this Plan
This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
