The Road of Discipleship—Building Faith

The call from Jesus can take place during worship, praise, preaching, evangelism, or reading the word of God. Those who answer the call and believe in God and His word receive a measure of faith to help in knowing and believing that God and Jesus are One; we must be one with them. In the personal call received from the Lord, our faith is activated. The law of God put in our minds and His word written on our hearts come alive and work together with our faith. Hearing what the Spirit of the Lord says is crucial to our faith and spiritual growth. It is through listening that our faith activates. God spoke through the Holy Spirit: “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” The law of God was set as a guard until faith is activated. “But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.” It is through preaching that our faith activates the growth of God’s word written within us. 

There is a time the word of God will show us the many parts of who God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are through the preaching of God’s word. The book of Titus enforces the previous statement about in due time His word will manifest through preaching: “But has in due time manifested His word through preaching.” It is through faith and faith alone that the hand of God is moved, and it pleases Him. Faith is a vital part of spiritual growth and becoming a disciple. It is also equally crucial for you to submit to sound, unadulterated preaching so that your faith may grow correctly. You will be able to divide the word of God rightly. Learn to hear God speak to you through any situation, any made thing, and anybody—believer or non-believer. The avenue expressed by God can be in any manner He chooses. He does this to build trust, to enhance spiritual strength, to grow in faith, and to increase confidence in His abilities so that you can identify His voice apart from any other. The importance of this developmental stage of faith is obeying God’s every word no matter how it is delivered. 

Sample prayer: 

Father, help me with any unbelief. Please increase my faith as I become a better hearer of Your word. Please help me to apply my faith in times of doubt, increase, decrease, trials, and tribulations. I believe what Your word says to me and about me as Your Son’s bride. No matter what I see or hear that is contrary to Your truth, I will walk in faith. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
