DAY 2 OF 5

Getting Involved / Staying Involved

Psalm 32:8 gives profound wisdom for instruction, teaching, and counsel for our children.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. (Get involved)

As your child grows, there will be different parenting opportunities and needs. Your children may go through phases of sports, activities, clubs, or otherwise. You'll find that you may be carving out a pinewood derby car one year only to be teaching golf the next. The key is to get active with your children because they won't be at this age for very long.

Why does it matter that you get involved with your children? In order to instruct and teach them, you must be involved. You have to know what's going on! If you're going along with life and not putting time into your children, you won't know their interests, opinions, feelings, etc. These are all vital to instruction and teaching.

I will counsel you with my eye upon you. (Stay Involved)

You know why being a dad seems like a full-time job? Because it is. Your children never reach an age where you let up. There may be adjustments you need to make as they mature, but being an active dad is always necessary. Those teen years come at you like a freight train, and if you are not paying attention, they will run you right over.

Parenting is constantly changing, depending upon the child and situation. You'll find that you may have to listen more in some years and speak up in others. Your presence may be needed more with this child and less with another. There will be years where you may not feel as connected to your children. Don't let up; stay diligent, stay open to communication, stay consistent, and above all else, be a Godly example to them.

Extra Credit: The best advice I can give you is to pray daily for your children and the wisdom to lead them as a Godly father.
