Prayer
By Nick Kalb
Story
Have you ever wanted something so much you asked your parents for it over and over again? Once, while my mom was shopping, I saw a video game I really wanted. I asked her the first time, and she said, “No.” I knew time was short since she was almost done with her shopping, so I became more forceful and asked her over and over again. By the time she was ready to check out she was furious, but she was also worn out from hearing me ask for it. She bought the game, but she didn’t want to speak to me for the rest of the night.
It was selfish of me to bug my mom and the energy I put into asking her for the game is EXACTLY the kind of passion God wants to see when we pray.
Bible
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”—Matthew 7:7 (NIV)
Think
The easiest prayers happen when we really want something for ourselves. But as it turns out, there are lots of reasons to pray. We can pray to thank God, to express remorse, to worship, and ask for help for others! Prayer is important because it gives us the opportunity to talk with the Creator of the universe. When we pray, God changes our hearts to become more like His. If we practise prayer, we’ll notice a change in the way we see the world; we’ll notice things other people don’t. And the best news is, we can pray anytime and anywhere, because God is always ready to hear from us. God wants us to talk with Him continually. If we do, we get to see Him work through the things we bring to Him.
Do Something
Stop and think for a moment. Find something to thank God for, ask for something someone else needs, and something you need help with. Talk to God about these things. As you continue with your day, keep talking to Him! Think of things throughout your day to bring to Him.
Pray
Dear God, thank You for making a way for me to talk with You. Help me to remember to pray every day and that I would be able to see You work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
