Love God Greatly: DavidSample
SOAP: 1 John 1:8-9
God’s heart is to forgive the sinner. No transgression is so black that God’s grace won’t reach in and wipe the slate clean. He faithfully chooses to cleanse the heart of those who confess and forsake living a sinful life.
Sometimes we lie to ourselves and rationalize that our sin isn’t that bad compared to someone else’s. Self-righteousness is ugly, and we must uproot it from our hearts and run to God’s altar for forgiveness. On the other hand, some people struggle with truly accepting God’s forgiveness – they constantly rehearse their past sins and remain forever caged in guilty thinking when the truth is that the blood of Christ has fully paid for every sin past, present, and future.
Lord, thank You for forgiveness full and free. Teach us to recognize when we are self-righteous and come running to You. Help us to lay our guilt down at the foot of the cross and leave it there forever. Amen.
